Freelance motion Graphic designer
About
I'm Rick Yaeger — a motion graphic designer based in South Surrey, BC. I've been designing for a living for over thirty years, and doing motion design in particular for the last fifteen.
Most of what I make now falls into four buckets: social post animations, lower thirds and template systems, VFX compositing, and logo animations. If it's a design system that has to survive the messy business of production — templates that keep working after you hand them off, brand marks that hold up in motion, comps that stand up to close inspection — that's the kind of work I like best.
Past and present clients include Fox Entertainment, Hallmark Channel, Kabam Games, Nature's Path Foods, Blue Microphones, and CreativeMornings Vancouver, among others. I run YaegerMotion, my independent freelance practice, and take on work through that.
In 2026 I graduated from the Luma Animation Accelerator's AI-Powered Filmmaking program. I use AI as a tool for ideation, prototyping, and production — not as a novelty. Nano Banana, FLUX, Kling, Seedream, GPT Image, and Claude are all part of how I work now.
Outside of client engagements, I make time for two organizations whose missions I believe in — you can read about that here.
I live in South Surrey. When I'm not at my desk, I'm collecting original movie posters (Richard Amsel, Bob Peak, Drew Struzan, John Alvin, Saul Bass, in no particular order), making pop-up cards for my wife on Valentine's Day, or watching scary movies.
